Below list does not provide all types New Zealand temporary visas.
1. Visitor visas
1.1 General visitor visas
General visitor visas are granted to people to be in New Zealand for reasons such as holidaying, visiting family, etc.
Visitor visas are issued with single or multiple entry conditions, and the maximum duration of a visitor visa is nine months (there are few exceptions to this rule).
1.2 Parents and grandparents’ visitor visas
Parents and grandparents of New Zealand citizens or resident visa holders may be granted multiple entries visitor visas with a three-year duration allowing the visa holders, on each visit, to stay with their family members for a maximum period of six months from the date of each arrival.
1.3 Group visitor visas
Group visas are for groups of people travelling to New Zealand together for the same purpose and leaving the country at the same time (tour groups).
1.4 Partnership-based visitor visas
Partners and dependent children of student visa holders, work visa holders, and New Zealand citizens or residence class visa holders may be granted visitor visas.
For dependent children, if the sponsoring parent holds a work visa granted under the Essential Skills or Religious Worker category, the parent’s gross income must be at least NZD 43,322.76 per year.
For partnership-based visitor visa applications, applicants and their sponsors must meet evidential requirements for partnership.
1.5 Culturally arranged marriage
People travelling to New Zealand for the purpose of marrying New Zealand citizens or residence class visa holders in a culturally arranged marriage may be granted visitor visas with a maximum duration of three months.

3.1 Partnership-based visas
Partnership-based work visas are granted to people who are partners of
- New Zealand citizens, or
- residence class visa holders; or
- holders of work visas with a duration of more than six-months including the holders of Essential Skills Work Visa (provided the sponsoring partner’s employment is paid minimum of $25.50/hour), Entrepreneur Work Visa or Work to Residence; and
- student visa holders who meet certain conditions.
